A key ENERGY STAR energy management tool for industry is the plant Energy Performance Indicator (EPI), which provides a bird’s-eye view of a plant’s sector-specific plant-level energy use via a functional relationship between the level of energy use and the level and type of various production activities, material input’s quality, and external factors. However, observational data are very limited in such regions. This study used passive microwave remote sensing data from the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager Sounder (SSMIS), providing observations under all weather conditions, to investigate the LST over the Amazon and Congo rainforests. The SSM/I and SSMIS data were collected from 1996 to 2012. The morning and afternoon observations from passive microwave remote sensing facilitate the investigation of the interannual changes of LST anomalies on a diurnal basis. As a result of the variability of cloud cover and the corresponding reduction of solar radiation, the afternoon LST anomalies tend to vary more than the morning LST anomalies. The dominant spatial and temporal patterns for interseasonal variations of the LST anomalies over the tropical rainforest were analyzed. The impacts of droughts and El Niños on this LST were also investigated. Differences between early morning and late afternoon LST anomalies were identified by the remote sensing product, with the morning LST anomalies controlled by humidity (according to comparisons with the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) reanalysis data).Item Open Access Loss of PRDM1/BLIMP-1 function contributes to poor prognosis of activated B-cell-like diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.(Leukemia, 2017-03) Xia, Y; Xu-Monette, ZY; Tzankov, A; Li, X; Manyam, GC; Murty, V; Bhagat, G; Zhang, S; Pasqualucci, L; Visco, C; Dybkaer, K; Chiu, A; Orazi, A; Zu, Y; Richards, KL; Hsi, ED; Choi, WWL; van Krieken, JH; Huh, J; Ponzoni, M; Ferreri, AJM; Møller, MB; Parsons, BM; Winter, JN; Piris, MA; Westin, J; Fowler, N; Miranda, RN; Ok, CY; Li, Y; Li, J; Medeiros, LJ; Young, KHPRDM1/BLIMP-1, a master regulator of plasma-cell differentiation, is frequently inactivated in activated B-cell-like (ABC) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients. Little is known about its genetic aberrations and relevant clinical implications. A large series of patients with de novo DLBCL was effectively evaluated for PRDM1/BLIMP-1 deletion, mutation, and protein expression. BLIMP-1 expression was frequently associated with the ABC phenotype and plasmablastic morphologic subtype of DLBCL, yet 63% of the ABC-DLBCL patients were negative for BLIMP-1 protein expression. In these patients, loss of BLIMP-1 was associated with Myc overexpression and decreased expression of p53 pathway molecules. In addition, homozygous PRDM1 deletions and PRDM1 mutations within exons 1 and 2, which encode for domains crucial for transcriptional repression, were found to show a poor prognostic impact in patients with ABC-DLBCL but not in those with germinal center B-cell-like DLBCL (GCB-DLBCL). Gene expression profiling revealed that loss of PRDM1/BLIMP-1 expression correlated with a decreased plasma-cell differentiation signature and upregulation of genes involved in B-cell receptor signaling and tumor-cell proliferation. The COHERENT collaboration uses this source to investigate coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering and other physics with a suite of detectors. This work includes a description of our Geant4 simulation of neutrino production at the SNS and the flux calculation which informs the COHERENT studies. We estimate the uncertainty of this calculation at about 10% based on validation against available low-energy pion production data.Item Open Access Strategic interaction among governments in the provision of a global public good(Journal of Public Economics, 2017-12-01) Kyle, MK; Ridley, DB; Zhang, S© 2017 How do governments respond to other governments when providing a global public good? Using data from 2007 to 2014 on medical research funding for infectious and parasitic diseases, we examine how governments and foundations in 41 countries respond to funding changes by the US government (which accounts for half of funding for these diseases). Because funding across governments might be positively correlated due to unobserved drivers they have in common, we use variation in the representation of research-intensive universities on US Congressional appropriations committees as an instrument for US funding. We find that a 10 % increase in US government funding for a disease is associated with a 2 to 3 % reduction in funding for that disease by another government in the following year.
