In 1989, American chemical company, E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., filed suit against Cetus Corporation, alleging the Cetus core PCR patents were not novel. Despite strong witnesses, DuPont could not prove that PCR invention had been obvious, and court ruled in favor of Cetus.
