Decades of anthropological, sociological, and psychological research establish that religious congruence is rare, but much thinking about religion presumes that it is common. The religious congruence fallacy occurs when interpretations or explanations unjustifiably presume religious congruence. I illustrate the ubiquity of religious incongruence, show how the religious congruence fallacy distorts thinking about religion, and outline an approach to help overcome the fallacy.Item Open Access Remnants of John Wesley's Personal Library(Methodist History, 2004-01-01) Maddox, RLItem Open Access Resources for the study of the classical world in the New Testament era(Theological librarianship, 2012-01-01) Sheppard, BMItem Open Access Respected Founder/Neglected Guide: The Role of Wesley in American Methodist Theology(Methodist History, 1999-01-01) Maddox, RL
