This allows investigators to construct a profile of impairments produced by a pharmacological or toxicological challenge, and to propose mechanisms for further study based on those findings. This profile is valuable in the assessment of potentially hazardous substances, including environmental toxicants, drugs of abuse, and other neuropharmacologically active agents. Behavioral tests and batteries have been developed for a number of species, including a relatively recent and growing body of work with the zebrafish, Danio rerio. This chapter discusses the current zebrafish behavioral battery used in our laboratory, and some of the main factors that drove its development. The principal tests include a motility assay for larval fish (6 days post fertilization, dpf), and a battery intended for adolescent (2–3 months) and adult fish (5+ months), which assay sensorimotor, affective, and cognitive-like functions in these fish. Significant progress has been made in the areas of zebrafish neurobehavioral analysis, although further studies, refinements, and task development efforts will be needed to strengthen this approach in the future.Item Open Access A Change of Affections: The Development, Dynamics, and Dethronement of John Wesley's Heart Religion("Heart Religion" in the Methodist Tradition and Related Movements, 2001) Maddox, RLItem Open Access A Classroom in the Barnyard: Reproducing Heterosexuality in American 4-H(2016) Rosenberg, GNItem Open Access A Computer Simulation Model of Pharmaceutical Innovation(Pharmaceutical Economics: Papers Presented at the 6. The workshop is designed to promote literacy around ggplot2 and data visualization creation. Over the course of the workshop, participants learn about the theory behind the ggplot2 package and its approach to visualization, the typical syntax used to create a visualization with ggplot2, and a few features for visualization design offered by ggplot2. The workshop combines conceptual material with hands-on exercises to build participants’ vocabulary, expose participants to the range of features available in ggplot2, and reinforce learning with repeated practice.Item Open Access A Planetary Warning?: A Multilayered Caribbean Zombie in Junot Díaz’s ‘Monstro(2016) Quesada, SarahItem Open Access Active Local Governments and New Chinese Firms in Emerging Industries in Kunshan and Dongguan(2022-09-17) Gereffi, Gary; Zhang, Xun; Wang, Cassandra CActive Local Governments and New Chinese Firms in Emerging Industries in Kunshan and DongguanItem Open Access ADVANCES IN THE MOLECULAR SIMULATION OF MICROPHASE FORMERS(2022-01-01) Charbonneau, P; Zhang, KThis chapter details the different experimental microphase formers and provides a minimal theoretical framework to present the simulation challenges associated with studying model microphase formers. Block copolymers are by far the most studied microphase formers. The chapter focuses on the phenomenological field theory description of the universality of the microphase formation and of the nature of the order-disorder transition. The chapter describes molecular simulation methods that have been specifically designed to achieve equilibrium in the periodic microphase regime. It details the thermodynamic framework and a free energy integration simulation method, followed by a concrete introduction to the ghost particle/cluster switching method. The chapter discusses several classical Monte Carlo algorithms to enhance the efficiency of simulating disordered microphases. It presents three models for which quantitative results have been obtained: a one-dimensional, a lattice, and an off-lattice microphase former. Fine-tuning colloidal suspensions to allow the formation of periodic microphases thus remains an open experimental problem.Item Open Access Advances in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Technology(2015-06-05) Peterchev, Angel V; Deng, Zhi-De; Goetz, Stefan© 2015 by Wiley-Blackwell. All rights reserved. This chapter provides overview of the state of the art of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) devices, including pulse sources with flexible control of the output waveform parameters and a wide variety of coil designs. It discusses technologies for accurate TMS targeting, including electric field models, frameless stereotaxy, and robotic coil holders. The chapter addresses technological aspects of ancillary coil effects such as heating, noise, vibration, and scalp stimulation. TMS requires high energy pulses that present a technical challenge for the design of practical, flexible, and efficient pulse sources. The chapter covers technical considerations for the integration of TMS and neuroimaging devices. It discusses various coil configurations and their electric field characteristics as well as technical advances in coil field modelling, positioning systems, efficiency and cooling, noise and scalp stimulation, and sham. The chapter summarizes technical considerations for the integration of TMS and neuroimaging devices.Item Open Access Item Open Access African models in global histories(2015) MacEachern, SItem Open Access Afro-Atlantic Culture: On the Live Dialogue between Africa and the Americas(Africana: The Encyclopedia of the African and African American Experience, 1999) Matory, JLItem Metadata only Afro-Atlantic Culture: On the Live Dialogue between Africa and the Americas(Africana: The Encyclopedia of the African and African American Experience, 1999) Matory, J LorandItem Open Access Afro-Atlantic Culture: On the Live Dialogue between Africa and the Americas(Africana: The Encyclopedia of the African and African American Experience, 1999) Matory, JLItem Open Access Alain Locke's New Negro: Of Words and Images(2019-02-15) Lai-Henderson, SelinaThese essays encourage a deeper understanding of creative ways of resisting and contributing, which African Americans have shown consistently throughout U.S. history.
