dc.description.abstract

One of the most pressing problems in contemporary discussions of both biblical and constructive christology is the apparent diversity of christological viewpoints in Scripture. The contention of this essay is that the "New Quest for the Historical Jesus," while not devoted expressly to this issue, provides a helpful perspective for addressing the problem. This contention is developed by a survey of the essential characteristics of the New Quest and an analysis of its potential contributions. In a closing section, the limitations of the New Quest in relation to a doctrine of christology are noted.
