Abstract
This project develops a regionally aligned emission factor (EF) database for key metals (Gold, Aluminum, Nickel, Titanium, Palladium) to support Wolfspeed’s Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) program. Limited supplier-specific data reduces the accuracy of Scope 3 Category 1 estimation. Peer-reviewed LCAs and industrial datasets were evaluated using the Ecoinvent Pedigree Matrix, and regionally weighted EFs were developed to reflect a typical U.S. electronics sourcing profile. Results show strong variability across metals and production routes, with primary production often more carbon-intensive than secondary production (recycling). Electricity intensity and production technology are the dominant drivers. Gold, Aluminum, and Nickel show high data quality, while Titanium and Palladium have lower data quality. This work provides actionable insights to improve Scope 3 accuracy and supplier engagement.
