Abstract
Vail Resorts, a leading mountain resort operator, faces significant waste management challenges, particularly at Heavenly Resort, where the "bag and drag" system complicates waste collection and diversion efforts. Our research assesses the current waste management infrastructure, operational inefficiencies, and barriers to increasing waste diversion rates. We analyze stakeholder perspectives, logistical constraints, and financial considerations to identify opportunities for improvement. Additionally, we examine case studies from other resort destinations to evaluate best practices in waste reduction. Based on these insights, we provide strategic recommendations for Vail Resorts to enhance sustainability efforts, streamline waste operations, and reduce environmental impact across its properties.
