dc.description.abstract | Rules and regulations have always been two things that have changed over a period of time based on what was occurring in society and its surroundings. New regulations were created as a result of new technology and the addition of social entertainment. The acquisition of new rules as well as the deletion of old ones and why this occurs can be analyzed through Duke University’s dormitory life. During the time of the Woman’s College, rules and regulations were set by bodies of government within the college in order to mold women into the kind of students the college wanted them to be. However, it can be argued that these rules were used in order to emphasize social success within the college and paid very little attention to outlining how a woman was to achieve educational success. | |
