Gert-Jan van Ommen, telephone interview by Kathryn Maxson and Robert Cook-Deegan, conducted from Durham, NC, 2 February 2012. Van Ommen is a leading human geneticist from the Netherlands and the former head of the Department of Human Genetics at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). He served as President of the Human Genome Organization (HUGO) Europe from 1995-1997, and President of HUGO from 1998-2000.
