dc.description.abstract | Transit-oriented development (TOD) has been widely cited as a means of curbing emissions, increasing mobility and fostering sustainable economic growth. In difficult economic times, the need for creative and cost-effective methods of achieving these ends is even more pertinent. This two-part report aims first to inform policy-makers, planners, developers and all concerned citizens of the economic opportunities and broader benefits inherent in TOD. Secondly, it will provide an organization-wide TOD strategy for the GRTC Transit System (GRTC) as well as an assessment of the potential for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and TOD along the Midlothian Turnpike Corridor. This report thus aims to serve as both a comprehensive reference guide for TOD as well as a practical deliverable for GRTC and the Greater Richmond Region. | |
