Abstract

"K-Ville: A World of Its Own" is an ethnography of one of the most storied and well-known Duke University traditions: the weeks-long campout on the grounds near Cameron Indoor Stadium before the Duke-UNC home basketball game. Andrew Leon Hanna, a freshman at the time, gives the reader an in-depth, personal look at the mysteries and idiosyncrasies of this Duke tradition from his own lens and the lens of other "tenters." Ultimately, the paper paints a picture of K-Ville from Duke students' eyes while exploring the unique positive and negative impacts it has on the Duke University experience and community.

This ethnography was originally written by Andrew Leon Hanna in his introductory writing class freshman year with Professor Townsend Middleton. All of the interviews and chronicled experiences occurred during the spring of 2011 during - of course - Duke's basketball season.
