Hauranus the Epicurean
Abstract
C. Stallius Hauranus, an Epicurean in Naples known from his funerary epigram (Courtney no. 22), is shown by his cognomen to be a freedman from Syria, as the name Hauranus is Semitic and recurs in 2 Macc. 4.40.
